Wilford Leach, 1978
Wilford Leach was the artistic director at LaMaMa ETC while I worked there. His company staged Corfax Doen’t Ask and Carmilla. He directed and designed at Joe Papp’s Public Theater and the NY Shakespeare Festival, where he directed The Prates of Penzance with Kevin Kline, Linda Ronstadt in 1980. He staged a television production with the same cast and moved it to Broadway winning his first Tony. Pirates continued in 1983 with a feature film version. He wrote the screenplay for the 1969 film The Wedding Party whose cast included Robert De Niro and Jill Clayburgh. He died in 1988.
