Filed under: General — Artflux at 1:35 pm on Sunday, February 25, 2007

I ran across a tutorial on designing t shirts for your avatar on Second Life. Robin Wood has a tutorial on his site using Photoshop. It went somewhat easily so here it is. If you would like one ask and I will give you one. It’s free so ask Victor Carson for one. I’ll have a larger selection soon.

Valentine’s Day Thing

The moon is in my sign Sagittarius approaching Mars which may be an aggressive day. Hopefully my Sag mood will stay quiet focusing on larger spiritual things. Relationships sometimes interfere with long term visions. Mercury is retrograde now so I guess things will make for communication difficulties. The eclipse is coming as well. So things may be a little difficult. But then again the new billboard in Times Square is cool.

The Ham Band Video

Filed under: Amateur Radio — Artflux at 9:13 pm on Tuesday, February 13, 2007

Andrew John Huddleston and Lissa Ladefoged G3WZZ have put together a video on ham radio. The recording was done in Nashville. It’s one of the best ham commercials I have seen. I just wonder how it was done? Hanging on a tower at 100 feet above the ground in a top hat and tux having champagne looks so casual in the video. All the songs are about amateur radio and the booklet which comes with the “Seek You” CD tells the whole story of contests, dx-peditions, antennas etc.

Rice and Beans

Filed under: Recipes — Artflux at 5:06 pm on Tuesday, February 13, 2007

For those who spend more than they make like me there is always Beans and Rice for dinner parties to save a little. You can be polite if you present the dish with a good wine and some cool music. Actually I found a really cheap wine recently that is fantastic. If you like red wine try Salice Salentino. It is paradise. Bottled in Italy by Midanna Leone de Castirs. Bon Appetite!

Ingrediants:

1 cup dry kidney beans
4 tablespoons olive oil
1 bulb shallot, minced
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup uncooked short grain rice
2 bay leaves
1 tablespoon salt freshly ground black pepper to taste
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
3 sprigs fresh parsley
3 sprigs fresh thyme
1 chile pepper

Place beans in a large pot, and cover with 3 inches of water. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer 1 1/2 hours, or until tender. Drain, reserving liquid. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Saute shallot and garlic until fragrant, stir in cooked beans, and cook for 2 minutes. Measure reserved liquid, and add water to equal 4 cups; stir into skillet. Stir in the uncooked rice. Season with bay leaves, adobo seasoning, salt, pepper, and cloves. Place sprigs of parsley and thyme, and scotch bonnet pepper on top, and bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 18 to 20 minutes. Serve hot.

Snaps From The Ancient Journal Archives

Filed under: Ancient Journal Archives — Artflux at 2:25 pm on Wednesday, February 7, 2007

I recently bought an Epson Perfection 3590 Photo Scanner to replace the Canon that died on me last month. It scans negatives, slides, both in color and black and white. I’m very pleased with it so far. So I started going though some of the Ancient Photo Archives from the 70’s to test it’s negative scanning capabilities. Here’s one take while I was a student at Pratt Institute while living in the East Village nearly 30 years ago.

Frankford Radio Club CQWW 160 CW K2AX

Filed under: Amateur Radio — Artflux at 3:57 pm on Monday, February 5, 2007

I spent the weekend operating in an amateur radio contest with members of Frankford Radio Club. The station, located in New Jersey, was spectacular. A pulsating buzz during the day was an annoyance that we attempted to resolve. With the help of an AM radio Mark, K2AX attempted to track it down.
