Toronto’s housing bubble is making living in the downtown core almost unbearable with constant noise from demolition and dust from construction sites without regard for zoning laws its like the wild west here. There are plans to demolish Toronto’s Princess of Wales Theatre to make way for another 80 some story condo on King West. There does not seem to be any regard for landmarked buildings as in New York.

Travel like a human – New York hotels

Filed under: Ancient Journal Archives,Cycling,Exhibitions,General,Poetry,Portraits — Artflux at 4:02 pm on Tuesday, October 13, 2009

New York hotels are overpriced. I discovered airbnb.com where you can list your spare room to guests who want to save while visiting the big apple. Their catch phrase is travel like a human. My first quests arrived over Columbus Day weekend from Montréal. The guys were actually charming guests. I’ve booked my spare room all the way through the middle of November.

Fashion Week is over. Whew… My solo soho show was canceled due to bad weather and a wicked bike crash I had two days before the opening. I was on my road bike traveling on a downhill at about 20 mph.. Then unexpectedly someone turned abruptly without signaling. I flipped over the handlebars landing on my my right shoulder as well as knee head and who knows what else. X-rays showed a level 1 or 2 shoulder separation. It’s been almost 3 weeks and I’m almost totally recovered.

It was kind of funny to ask me to go slow ‘haste makes waist.’ I explained that road bikes are designed for racing. The idea is to go really fast.

Post Christmas ebay art auctions on sale now at greatly reduced prices

Filed under: Exhibitions — Artflux at 5:10 pm on Thursday, January 3, 2008

You’ll love to know that there is plenty of excellent art available at affordable prices, by well know artists that were in the benefit auction at Artflux last month. Some of the works are still available on Ebay. Works by REGINA CHERRY, CARI ROSMARTIN, VICTOR CARNUCCIO and ERIK PATTON are now available. 70% of the sales will go to the artists; 30% to Artflux Productions Ltd to continue exhibitions.

After all dealers often take 50 – 70 % of the proceeds to pay for their high rent so there’s not much left for the artists. Artflux takes only 30% of the sales.

Others who regularly sell works on Ebay are HELMUT NEWTON, HIROSHI SUGIMOTO, JOCK STURGES, THOMAS RUFF, JOHN DOUGDALE, JOHN WATERS, LARRY CLARK, PHILIPPE HALSMAN, and many others.

Victor Carnuccio, Bill Bent Silver Gelatin Print

A print titled ‘Bill Bent′ by VICTOR CARNUCCIO recently sold for only $150.00 much less than the galleries and auction houses are asking. That’s remarkable since one of his male nudes recently sold $400.00 at auction.

Oh and the only issue that I have with selling and buying photography on Ebay is the that Ebay does not allow any kind of frontal nudity showing a penis. To list such items you need to move them to a mature audience category that is difficult for buyers to get to. The images there are of lower quality and actually many buyers are reluctant to visit there as a result. The other problem is blocking payment by Papal. It would be in their interest to change this practice.
